Feeling good about my recent success with Pikochart, I thought I would try another graphic design program.
This one, Easel.ly seems to be specifically geared towards making infographics. I love infographics, perhaps this could work alongside the programs like Pikochart and Canva that I'm already familiar with. Easel.ly made me crazy. I don't know if the site was having a bad day, my computer was in a mood, or the site is just poorly designed, but I found it VERY frustrating. The first thing I notice was the shaking. Every time I tried to move an element around it would shake. This made my vision blurry and I started feeling nauseous. Next, when I tried to resize things I couldn't select the correct icon. It was just frustrating. I lasted for less 10 minutes. I might give it another try, but I'm skeptical. I think Easel.ly is owned by Adobe because since signing up I've received 3 emails from Adobe and 2 from Easl.ly themselves. This may become a problem. These free sites are great, but the spam can get a little much. I can already hear my students calling me over to their laptops to get me to help them because they can't make the program work for them. When other great free online graphic design programs are so readily available, I don't know what I need to bother with one that gave me such a bad first impression.
I DON'T THINK I'M GOING TO TRY THIS WITH MY CLASS. WITH YOU?
This is the infographic I gave up on. It was a template they provided, showing oil production. I thought it would be neat to change to a personal map of all my favourite places in the world. I didn't get past Toronto when the shaking and strange interface turned me off the program. Has anyone else had success with this program? Am I giving up too quickly? Am I just being grumpy?
